The May edition of Modern Medicine is online and available now.

In this issue we have a locally written article on pelvic organ prolapse, a common and distressing issue for women everywhere. We also focus on Radiology for the month, with details on x-ray in knee and ankle injuries, as well as a great article on new imaging modalities in coronary artery disease.

The articles above are topped off with a therapeutic overview on adult depression, examining everything from detection to treatment of this chronic disorder.

April edition – ready to read

The April edition of Modern Medicine is online for you to read.

Our Ethics writer, Prof Keith Bolton puts forward an article on the purely human topic of altruism and how it relates to the practice of organ donation. A thought-provoking piece, indeed.

This issue holds a number of articles, covering everything from hypothyroidism during pregnancy, to headaches, allergies and the oral contraceptive pill.

March Edition of Modern Medicine Available

The Easter edition of Modern Medicine is available now. In it, we include a number of clinical articles, these focus on wound care, cardiology gastroenterology ad psychiatry, among other topics.

Local author, Dr Carol Hartmann, from the WITS faculty of health sciences writes an article on silver in wound care for us, and we include in-depth clinical articles on ulcerative colitis, heart failure and diabetes in patients with mental illness.

We’ve begun including all of our article references at the end of the digital edition, for those of you that like to see them.

February edition available now

The February edition of Modern Medicine is available now. In it, we include a number of articles focused on womens health.

We also include the first Ethics CPD article of the year, on Doctors in the Court.

With our February edition we will also begin including the complete references for all of the articles included in the edition; these can be found at the end of the digital edition.

Your January 2016 Edition is Online Now

We at Modern Medicine would like to wish all of our readers a happy and prosperous new year – may 2016 bring you you all that you wish.

The first issue of 2016 is available now. We’ve included a number of really great clinical articles, focusing on the topics of COPD, prostate cancer, pain and Addison’s Disease.

The January edition also brings the first of a new type of article to you, one written by our new editorial board of local key-opinion-leaders in SA medicine. Dr Sean Chetty contributed towards the writing of our pain article this month, examining lower back pain before and after the menopause – a great read.

Break the mould to improve patient access to essential drugs

Payers and pharma in SA are still unable to work collaboratively to decide how drugs are paid for – causing difficulties for pharma to provide patients with essential medicines.

eyeforpharma recently spoke with Dr JoĂŁo Carapinha, Chief Market Access Scientist at Carapinha & Consultants on how this could soon change. JoĂŁo discusses how offering rebates will boost competition and increase patient access to essential drugs. He also explores why pharma must work closer with payers to fully understand reimbursement criteria and increase funding for their products.
