Low testosterone levels are associated with increased risk ofĀ cardiovascular disease and increased mortality in ageing men. MenĀ with pathologically based hypogonadism should be consideredĀ for testosterone supplementation. For older men suspected ofĀ being androgen deficient in the absence of pituitary or testicularĀ disease, controversy exists because symptoms can be nonspecific,Ā the definition of low testosterone levels is under debate and the risksĀ of extended treatment are uncertain.
